BTC/USD AMD Distribution Setup.

BTC/USD AMD Distribution Setup.

Bitcoin / U.S. dollar BITSTAMP:BTCUSD

The BTC/USD 1-hour chart presents a classic AMD (Accumulation–Manipulation–Distribution) cycle combined with Smart Money Concepts (SMC). Price first completed an Accumulation phase below the Market Structure Shift level, where buyers quietly built positions before initiating a strong bullish expansion. This impulsive rally successfully broke the previous market structure, confirming a Market Structure Shift (MSS) and shifting short-term momentum in favor of buyers.

Following the bullish breakout, price entered the Manipulation phase by aggressively pushing above the previous swing high and sweeping Buy Side Liquidity. This move trapped breakout buyers while allowing institutional traders to distribute positions at premium prices. The sharp rejection immediately after the liquidity sweep confirms that buying pressure weakened once liquidity objectives were achieved.

The chart now shows price entering the Distribution phase. Large bearish candles after the manipulation indicate that sellers are gaining control, suggesting smart money may be offloading positions rather than preparing for another bullish continuation. This transition from manipulation to distribution is a common AMD pattern that often precedes a deeper corrective move.

Price has now retraced into the highlighted Fair Value Gap (FVG), which represents an important imbalance zone. The FVG may provide temporary support and trigger a short-term bullish reaction. However, unless buyers reclaim the recent highs with strong bullish momentum, this bounce is likely to be corrective rather than the beginning of a new uptrend.

The bearish projection suggests that after a possible reaction inside the Fair Value Gap, BTC could continue lower toward the Sell Side Liquidity resting around the 61,100–61,300 support area. This zone represents the next major liquidity target where institutions may seek to rebalance orders before the market establishes its next directional move.

Overall, the current market structure favors a short-term bearish outlook. The completed AMD cycle, Buy Side Liquidity sweep, bearish rejection from premium prices, and Distribution phase all support the probability of further downside. Traders should monitor the Fair Value Gap closely, as a confirmed breakdown below this imbalance would strengthen the bearish continuation scenario toward the Sell Side Liquidity zone, while a strong bullish reclaim above the manipulation high would invalidate the bearish setup.
